Bookloft

Publishers

Three ways to run a publishing house. None of them is the rule.

Bookloft doesn't impose how you work: royalty tiers, settlement periods, channels, VAT and advances are configured per house. What follows is where the shoe usually pinches in each case.

Independent house

01

Independent house

Who
One or two people. A handful of titles a year and no time at all for admin.
Where it pinches
The bottleneck is reading: more submissions arrive than can be read, and the pile grows faster than the free afternoons. And every year, the royalty spreadsheet.
What changes
Every submission gets read the day it lands and arrives with a reasoned judgement. The royalty statement stops being a day's work. And authors stop emailing to ask how their book is doing, because they can see it.

Usually fits: Básico

Growing imprint

02

Growing imprint

Who
A small team, a catalogue with real weight, and proper distribution.
Where it pinches
The problem stops being time and becomes consistency: metadata doesn't match between the distributor and the website, nobody quite knows the real stock, and press lives in one person's head.
What changes
A single book record that travels everywhere, a warehouse that reconciles with print runs and delivery notes, and publicity with a history instead of a notebook.

Usually fits: Pro

Group with several imprints

03

Group with several imprints

Who
Several lines or brands, with different teams and different judgement.
Where it pinches
Each imprint has its own editorial judgement and its own way of settling, and unifying them in one tool usually means somebody loses theirs.
What changes
Each imprint keeps its branding, its selection criteria and its terms, inside one house. White label is complete and analyses can run on your own keys.

Usually fits: Estudio or Publishing group

And if we work some other way?

And if we work some other way?

Then it gets configured. That's the whole point: what one house does isn't the rule for the rest — not even what ours does. If something in the craft doesn't fit, write to us and we'll look at it. That's how everything else got built.

Fourteen days to test it with your own books.

Upload a manuscript and let it read. Import twenty books. Produce a royalty statement. That will tell you.
