The productPublicity
The contacts book, but shared and with a memory.
Media, libraries, bookshops, influencers and champions, each with their history: who was sent what, who replied and what ran. When that book lives in one person's head, the publishing house depends on that person being there.
Contents
01What is in it
- Press and clippings
- What was sent and what was published, kept. A title's press pack assembles itself once everything is in.
- Media
- Contacts by outlet and desk, with what each one cares about. Importable from whatever list you already have.
- Libraries and bookshops
- The two networks that sustain a backlist, with their history of orders and of interest.
- Influencers and champions
- Who received what and what it moved, without taking declared reach at face value.
- Affiliate programme
- Champions with their own link and commission, if you decide to run one.
- Import what you already have
- Your Excel or CSV lists come in through the same route as the rest of the catalogue.
The trade
02The vocabulary
- Clippings
- The collected coverage of a book or a publishing house. It is what you show the author and what the next campaign rests on.
- Champion
- Someone who recommends on their own judgement and brings readers with them: a bookseller, a librarian, a reading group.
- Press mailing
- Sending copies to media before or on publication. It costs money, so it is worth knowing what came back.
- Backlist
- The catalogue that keeps selling years after publication. Libraries and backlist bookshops are what keep it alive.
