The productSales and rights

Royalty statements stop being a whole day of spreadsheet.

Sales come in by channel with their rate and their returns, the contract holds your own tier structure, and the statement calculates itself each period. You review it and you sign it, which is the part that actually needs an editor.

What is in it

Sales by channel
Each channel with its rate, its discount and its returns. Imported from the same report your distributor already sends you.
Contracts
Term, territories, formats, advance and the royalty tiers. Yours: Bookloft ships no preset structure.
Royalty statements
Derived from the contract and the sales, per period, with line-by-line detail and a PDF for the author.
Returns
They subtract where they should and in the period they belong to, including when the previous one is already settled.
Annual report
The year closed by title, by author and by channel, without rebuilding it by hand every January.
Rights
What is granted, to whom, in which territory and until when. With warnings before it expires.

Inside a statement

Sample data. Tabular figures and tiers on show: a statement gets reviewed, and to review one you have to be able to follow it with your finger.

The vocabulary

Royalty tiers
The percentage rises in bands of copies sold. Every publishing house has its own, and some pay a flat rate: both fit.
Return
A copy the bookshop sends back. It subtracts from the period's sales, and from the next period if this one is already settled.
Channel rate
The discount at which each channel sells. It changes the base the royalty is calculated on, so it changes what the author is paid.
Accounting period
How often accounts are rendered. Once a year is the norm; half-yearly or quarterly too, whatever your contract says. The tool does not decide it.
